So much like a real, respectable blogger I have had a gap in entries. Why? Didn't care.In an attempt to get back into the flow I'm going to cop-out and do another of my favorite OCD activities: make lists.
Here are my favorite movies the decade. Note i said favorite, not best. I don't claim to know what "best" is. I just know what I like. Also, these are pieces that had the most influence on me. They helped direct future taste and interests in profound ways. I may not revisit these as much as I would a random showing of Zoolander on TBS, but they are far, far more formative.
FILM: (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
Mulholland Dr. (David Lynch)
There Will Be Blood (Paul Thomas Anderson)
Shaun of the Dead (Edgar Wright)
Let The Right One In (Tomas Alfredson)
Dawn of the Dead (Zach Snyder)
Zodiac (David Fincher)
The Royal Tenebaums (Wes Anderson)
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Peter Jackson)
Batman Begins (Christopher Nolan)
A History of Violence (David Cronenberg)
Honorable Mentions:
Ghost World (Terry Zweigof)
Almost Famous (Cameron Crowe)
The Wrestler (Darren Aronofsky)
Watchmen (Zach Snyder)
The Fantastic Mr. Fox (Wes Anderson)
The Incredibles (Brad Bird)
End of the Century:The Story of The Ramones (Jim Fields & Michael Gramaglia)
The Descent (Neil Marshall)
Team America (Trey Parker)
Punch Drunk Love (Paul Thomas Anderson)
Avatar (James Cameron)
Notes:
-I choose BATMAN BEGINS because it blew me away with how shockingly great it was. I had low expectations. The most important super hero movie of the decade.
-LOTR is one long movie. It's not a cheat
-Before yesterday AVATAR would not have made the list. But my second viewing gave me a much, much deeper appreciation for the accomplishment.
-DAWN OF THE DEAD is the greatest remake ever. It took one of my top 5 favorites of all-time, re-thought it as an action film, and went balls-out. Along with SHAUN (funniest movie of decade) it revived zombies
